Where did they go?

Vesi with a thermometer checking the temperature of an ice berg.

Heating and cooling leads to change of state. Heating water causes it to boil and evaporate. Cooling water causes it to freeze. Vesi thinks temperature and changing states of water have something to do with the mystery of the disappearing icebergs. She wants to find out more. She is taking the temperature of the iceberg to see whether or not it has changed.

What will I learn in this lesson?

I will be able to

  • recognize that a change of state involves a change in temperature
  • describe the changes that water undergoes when it changes state
  • make inferences based on observations
